COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Gov. Ted Strickland plans a major re-election fund-raiser next week in Cincinnati.
The Democrat appeared to erase any doubt about his plans to run for a second term in 2010 when an invitation for a "re-election kickoff" reception on Jan. 30 was posted on the Web site of the Hamilton County Democratic Party. Tickets are $200 and $1,000.
However, Ohio Democratic Party executive director Doug Kelly says the event is only one in a series of fund-raisers helping prepare Strickland for a likely re-election bid. Kelly says the Cincinnati event does not constitute a formal re-election announcement.
Republicans including former U.S. Rep. John Kasich and state Sen. Kevin Coughlin are exploring a run against him.
