CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Police near Cincinnati say a troubled young man fatally shot his adopted father and two others just before a fire was set at their suburban ranch-style home. Authorities in Hamilton County have charged 26-year-old Timothy Sturgel with three counts of murder in the Saturday morning shooting deaths of 51-year-old Jerry Sturgel, 40-year-old Mary Sturgel and 13-year-old Emily Hurst.
Hurst can be heard on a 911 call screaming that her stepbrother just shot her stepfather. An apparent struggle could then be heard just before the phone went dead. Dozens of police rushed to the Colerain Township home, where they found Sturgel holding a long-barreled weapon. He was taken into custody soon afterward. Hamilton County Sheriff's Office spokesman Steve Barnett says it appears that Sturgel started the fire.
