Districts Running Low On Calamity Days

» 1 Comment | Post a Comment

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- With the prospect of several inches of snow and dangerous driving conditions Tuesday, NBC 4 dug deeper to find out where local school districts stand with their calamity days.

Many schools were forced to use days in September after a massive wind storm tore through Central Ohio. Now, districts are facing a winter bind, NBC 4's Tanya Hutchins reported.

Many superintendents met Monday to decide whether to delay school or cancel classes Tuesday. They're looking at weather reports to see how the expected snow will affect each district.

Columbus City Schools don't have any calamity days left, so students will make up their days at the end of the school year.

South-Western City Schools have three days left and will make a decision about Tuesday classes before 5:30 a.m.

Hilliard City Schools have two days remaining, while Westerville City Schools have three days left.

Dublin City Schools have two days left, but three buildings in Worthington have used all five allotted days.

Most districts who spoke with NBC 4 said they will make up days at the end of the school year.

The last day of school in Worthington is on a Thursday, so students could be in session that Friday.
