LOGAN, Ohio--
A return visit to Hocking County finds the lights winking back on again and people leaving shelters for their homes. NBC 4's Mike Bowersock
returned to Logan because Hocking County was one of the worst-affected by the storm. At one point 90 % of the population was without electricity because of ice and snow.
Joan Newman told Bowersock that she has been spending her nights around the fireplace. Temperatures in the rest of the house dropped to 38 degrees but
the hearth was warm enough to keep her home. There were electrical workers outside her house and she hoped that by morning her power would be back on.
AEP still had 25,000 customers in the state without electricity, way down from Thursday. The company said melting on Saturday actually set them back a little.
"Some thawing occurred today in some of the areas causing additional outages to customers that may have already been restored and additional outages to other customers. Melting causes limbs laden with ice to rebound into the power lines. Some remote and rural areas are reporting they are finding additional major damage from trees slowing some of the restoration efforts."
South Central Power had about 4500 customers still needing reconnection when dark fell on Saturday. Following is a table of the remaining connections
that affect the NBC 4 viewing area.
