GAHANNA, Ohio -- Local authorities asked for your help to catch two theft suspects.
NBC 4’s Mike Jackson reported with the FAST FACTS on Central Ohio Crime Stoppers’ crime of the week.
A man and woman entered the BP gas station at 407 Granville St. at about 8 p.m. Friday, June 12.
The suspects entered the store under the guise of purchasing lottery tickets, according to authorities.
The woman asked the store clerk if he would exchange a $20 bill for $5 bills.
Once the $5 bills were received, she quickly requested the $5 be exchanged for $10 bills.
By the time the “exchanges” ended, the suspect was able to confuse the clerk into giving her $80 extra dollars, authorities said.
The man and woman left the store and were seen driving away in an older, dark-colored Cadillac.
The couple went to the Donatos next door and, using the same technique, were able to “quick change” the clerk there for another $20, Crime Stoppers said.
Authorities said the suspects have been using the con for some time and have managed to bilk businesses out of hundreds.
The woman is described as a black female in her 40s. She is about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs about 150 pounds. She has short black hair and was wearing a dark, short-sleeve pull-over top with the logo of a cowboy riding a bucking horse on the left chest area and black denim pants.
The man is described as a black male in his late 50s. He is about 6 feet tall and weighs 200 pounds. He has short salt and pepper hair and was wearing a short-sleeve white polo-style shirt with the collar turned up and red pants.
