COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Columbus fire sent hazmat units out to the West Side late Sunday after getting several calls of an irritating odor in the air.
Residents of El Paso Drive and Vera Place, near Hague Avenue, were among those who called the Columbus Fire Department, concerned for their safety.

Equipment from two battalions responded to the area.
One engine found a trash fire and put it out but said that it was not the source of the piercing odor.
Firefighters on the scene reported that the smell was strongest near a church on Vera Place but could not identify a source.
Nothing was found after fire officials screened the area.
