COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Hundreds of tickets have been issued, but who have officials said are the worst offenders?
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.
State Route 315 has been under construction for three weeks, and officers have issued almost 700 citations.
Of those violators, 98 percent of drivers have been fined for driving 10 miles an hour above the speed limit or faster.
CPD Sgt. Joe Curmode said the number of speeders has dropped significantly since the construction first started.
Officers still are seeing a big problem with drivers between the ages of 18 to 25 and 40 to 50, though, he said.
Police also said many of the violators are on their cell phones and not paying attention to the road.
Curmode stressed the importance of slowing down not only for the safety of construction workers but for your safety, too.
He said S.R. 315's narrow lanes increase the chances of a minor accident becoming major.
Most citations are in the $200 range, but only 30 percent of every fine goes back to the city of Columbus.
