COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Voters in Ohio's 15th Congressional District may experience deja vu in November 2010 after Republican Steve Stivers announced Tuesday he will challenge Democratic congresswoman Mary Jo Kilroy in 2010.
Kilroy beat Stivers by just over 2,300 votes last year.
Stivers said today he's concerned Kilroy supported federal spending that he said is creating massive debt for future generations.
“I felt like if I didn't get back in it, it would be a disservice to my kids and all our kids because we can't afford that kind of crippling debt on our economy,” Stivers said.
Kilroy's spokesperson Paul Tencher said today the congresswoman, “will continue to advocate for families, consumers and small businesses during these tough economic times. The politics will have to wait.”
NBC 4 also learned Tuesday that conservative independent candidate Don Elijah Eckhart will not run again.
“I've already made my statement. I ran as a pro-life candidate, got a lot of votes, enough to cause an effect on the outcome of the race,” Eckhart told NBC 4.
Eckhart and Libertarian Party candidate Mark Noble combined for more than 26,000 votes in 2008, which many believe tipped the election in Kilroy's favor.
Noble said he is considering running again but has not made a decision.
