COLUMBUS, Ohio
Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland has denied clemency to a man sentenced to die next week for a deadly shooting during a multistate killing rampage in 1991.
In a statement released Wednesday, Strickland said he thoroughly reviewed the case of 45-year-old John Fautenberry before making his decision. The Ohio Parole Board unanimously recommended last month that Strickland reject mercy for Fautenberry.
The death row inmate is sentenced to die Tuesday for the fatal shooting of a Hamilton County man.
Fautenberry also was convicted of the stabbing death of an Alaska miner and the killing of a New Jersey truck driver, and was linked to the deaths of two people in Oregon.
