COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A 16-year-old girl is recovering after being shot by a stray bullet at Red, White & Boom!
Jasmine Coleman Sammur was struck in the chest by a bullet last Friday. Investigators said the gun was fired into the air in celebration.
"The doctor came back with the photo and said, 'You need to go to church on Sunday because you are one lucky girl,'" said Tracey Coleman Sammur, the victim's mom.
"I didn't even get to see the fireworks. I didn't get my funnel cake," Jasmine said.
Police said the gunshot could have been fired from more than a mile away.
The bullet is still inside Jasmine. She has an appointment on Wednesday to have it examined.
