COLUMBUS, Ohio – Stelzer Road was closed for hours Monday morning due to a severe crash that pinned the driver of a van under a semi.

Columbus emergency personnel responded to a severe traffic accident at Stelzer Road and E. 17th Avenue just before 4:00 a.m. Monday. At the scene, crews found the front end of a van crushed beneath the rear of a semi-- and the van's driver inside.
Columbus fire crews quickly and delicately worked to free the man from the wreckage, but the extrication took over an hour.
Once freed, the victim was flown by Med Flight to Grant Hospital with severe injuries to his lower extremities. His identity is unknown at this time, but officials believe him to be in his early 20’s.
The northbound lanes of Stelzer Road are still under traffic restrictions at this time.
