COLUMBUS, Ohio - A former school band director has lost his Ohio teaching license for taking school musical instruments and selling some of them on eBay.
The state Board of Education over the weekend accepted Brian Bell's voluntary surrender of his license. In February, 27-year-old Bell resigned from Olentangy Hyatts Middle School in central Ohio and repaid almost $25,000 for French horns, oboes, a clarinet and other instruments that were missing. Criminal charges were never filed.
Bell initially said the instruments had been stolen from his car. His lawyer, Robert Washburn, says Bell said he intended to replace the instruments that he had sold.
