NBC 4 reported on WHERE THIS STORY STANDS.
Retta McKibben's 14-year-old daughter called authorities Tuesday, July 7, saying her mom was drunk and had slammed her pet Chihuahua, Zoe, into the ground, killing it, according to Buckeye Lake police.
Officers found the dog's body outside McKibben’s home. Police said Zoey was wrapped in a blanket and placed on a chair next to a trash can.
Buckeye Lake resident Retta McKibben was taken into police custody and charged with animal cruelty.
The dog's skull was crushed and its spinal cord was ripped away from the base of its skull, according to a necropsy report.
Neighbor Christy Housley said McKibben loved her four dogs and helped find homes for other animals. Housley said she got her dog Sable from McKibben.
Authorities said McKibben had a fairly clean record previously.
She was ticketed two weeks ago after one of McKibben's other dogs got out of her house and attacked another dog. McKibben also had some traffic violations.
McKibben’s other three dogs were taken into custody by animal officials.
She was arraigned in court Tuesday. McKibben received a $,5000 cash surety bond.
She could face as much as 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fee in the misdemeanor charge.
