CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. -- Military officials say a North Carolina-based Marine has been killed in combat in Afghanistan.
The Department of Defense said in a statement issued Wednesday that 33-year-old Staff Sgt. David S. Spicer of Zanesfield, Ohio, died Monday in Helmand province.
Spicer was assigned to the 8th Engineer Support Battalion, Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune.
Spicer was one of two Marines killed Monday in the province. Officials said Sgt. Michael W. Heede Jr., of Delta, Pa., was also killed. Heede was assigned to Camp Pendleton.
