CINCINNATI -- A county commissioner says the number of homeless people who spend the night outside the courthouse in Cincinnati has become a problem, and he wants them kept away.
But an advocacy group says it's the people with nowhere else to go who are the victims, not people who work in or walk by the courthouse.
Hamilton County Commissioner David Pepper says allowing people to sleep on benches or in doorways at the courthouse makes the area appear unsafe. He says county workers have to clean and sanitize the area every morning because of refuse and urine.
Pepper wants the homeless steered to nearby shelters.
The Greater Cincinnati Coalition for the Homeless says the courthouse camp-outs only point to the urgency of dealing with the larger problem of homelessness.
