Community Policing Makes A Difference In Fairfield County

»  Comments | Post a Comment

LANCASTER, Ohio -- Two years into the community watch program in Fairfield County, the effort is making a real impact.

With county and city funds dwindling, the program which was implemented by Fairfield County Sheriff Dave Phalen, allows deputies to handle the heavy lifts in the area.

That means community patrol volunteers help with traffic patterns, lines down, neighborhood patrols, and other smaller issues.

The volunteers go through training, but don't carry weapons, and can't make arrests.

But when it comes to filling in important gaps in the county, these volunteers do the trick.

Residents say they love having it, and are surprised more communites aren't putting them in place.
