Dead Voters Signatures Surface On Casino Petition

»  Comments | Post a Comment

DAYTON, Ohio -- The signatures of dead voters are showing up on petitions aimed at putting a plan for four casinos on the November ballot in Ohio.

In the Dayton area's Montgomery County, petitions included signatures from 23 dead voters. Becky Martin, deputy elections board director in nearby Darke County, says she saw the signature of her late father-in-law, who died 25 years ago, on a petition.

The names of the dead make up only a small fraction of the 850,000 signatures casino backers have gathered. About 402,000 valid signatures are required to get the casino issue on the ballot.

Bob Tenenbaum, spokesman for the pro-casino Ohio Jobs and Growth Plan, says signature gatherers are told to be honest. He says they should be prosecuted if they violate the law by forging signatures.
