UPPER ARLINGTON, Ohio -- American Electric Power needs to update it's transmission system -- as the last update was 20 years ago.
But the added utility poles and seven months of road construction is not on John Withers wish list for the future. "It's an eyesore," said Withers, an Upper Arlington resident of six years.
AEP spokesperson Vicky Mulhalski says the transmission system needs to be updated from the Roberts Road substation all the way down to the substation adjacent to The Ohio State University Medical Center.
The addition will mean, brand new transmission lines, new utility poles and construction along Lane Avenue which would bring Lane Avenue to one lane in each direction during the course of the project.
In addition, AEP says there's a larger demand for more power from growing neighborhoods.
The Ohio Siting Board will determine if AEP should move forward with the project in October.
