Investigation: Infant Bitten By Rodents

An investigation reveals a 6-week-old shows was bitten by rodents, and a teen male is arrested.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A teenager was arrested after investigation revealed an infant was bitten by one or more rodents multiple times, according to authorities.

NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.

A 6-week-old infant was transported from Pike County Community Hospital to Nationwide Children’s Hospital early Sunday morning with what looked to be bite marks.

Detectives talked with doctors and interviewed family members at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Doctors at Children’s determined the infant’s injuries were consistent with rodent bites and the injuries occurred over a lengthy period of time, according to the Pike County sheriff’s office.

The child suffered serious injuries to the left foot and back as well as numerous bite marks to other parts of his or her body.

The infant was listed in stable condition Monday morning.

Todd C. Trent of Red Bridge Road, Peebles, was arrested as a result of the investigation.

Trent, 18, was charged with one count of child endangerment, one count of obstructing official business and one count of tampering with evidence.

Charges against other individuals may be filed pending further investigation.

The infant's name and sex were not released currently.

Trent’s relationship to the infant could not be confirmed immediately.
