Early Education Takes Big Budget Hit

»  Comments | Post a Comment

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Central Ohio children rely on the Early Learning Initiative program to prepare them for school.

At Creative World Child Care, more than 40 kids learn through the state-funded program. Upon Gov. Ted Strickland's signature of the new budget, ELI program participants lose benefits on August 22.

Now, the center's staff is scrambling to qualify families for benefits through the Title 20 Program also administered through the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

But that won't be easy. Title 20 also lost some funding and lowered the income qualification amount from 200 percent of the federal poverty to 150 percent.
