COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A 14-year-old remained in critical condition Monday morning after he almost drowned in an apartment complex pool.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.
Some teens noticed a 14-year-old boy was submerged in the water at The Gaslight Village apartment complex’s pool. The boy wasn't moving.
Two teens jumped into the water to pull out the boy, and a third attempted CPR while others called 911.
“He couldn't swim. He was laying in the bottom with his arms crossed -- like a casket or something,” rescuer Abu Krma said.
“Then I did CPR on him. He started throwing up,” Fatoumata Diakiet said.
Emergency crews arrived at the Maize Road complex, on the city's North Side, at about 7:20 p.m. Sunday.
Medics from the closest fire station arrived and said the teen was in arrest: he was not breathing and didn’t have a pulse.
The boy was transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, and a partial pulse was restored as medics approached the hospital.
The teens who pulled the victim from the water said they didn’t know the boy but hoped what they did was in time to save his life.
The apartment complex’s pool had passed its health-department inspection.
There are no requirements for lifeguards at the complex pool and there were none at the pool last night, according to Columbus Public Health.
NBC 4 has not confirmed the victim's identity currently, and authorities said the minor's name will not be released.
