COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Just take a stroll down Carpenter Street on the South Side of town and you'll go from seeing old, vacant homes to gorgeous, "looks-like-new" houses.
John Edgar, the executive director for the nonprofit Community Development for All People said the group began working on the block last year.
"When we first came into this street, the majority of these properties were vacant and boarded up", said, Edgar.
The goal for the organization is to buy every vacant home within 28 square blocks of Nationwide Children's Hospital, renovate the houses, and then make them available as owner-occupied homes.
In order to do that, Edgar's organization will get some grant money from city and state government and also $3.5 million from the hospital.
Edgar also said the United Way may be on board, too.
A rehabilitated home along Carpenter Street goes for around $75,000.
