CENTRAL OHIO -- Over the past several weeks, Central Ohio authorities have sent out media requests to broadcast a number of missing persons cases. Many of the cases had a common theme: Alzheimer's Disease or dementia.
Michelle Chippas with the Alzheimer's Association of Central Ohio says it magnifies the need for family members or caregivers to look for signs of issues. That includes forgetfulness, changes in behavior, diet, or sleep patters, and wandering.
Those at risk can purchase a bracelet that has information that can help authorities in case a patient is found wandering.
Precautions for wandering are also in place at nursing home facilities around the area.
At Country View of Sunbury, the doors are equipped with alarms, and some patients prone to wondering wear electronic bracelets in case they try to walk through the doors without permission.
