DAYTON, Ohio -- Dayton police searching for two young children missing since Sunday night say two men found them alive in trash cans outside an electric company.

Dayton police Lieutenant Brian Johns says the 2-year-old girl and 8-month-old boy were reported missing by their mother, who said her boyfriend took them after the couple argued.

Johns says the man was intoxicated and refused to tell police where the children were.

They were found Monday after one of the men heard crying. He says they were covered in mud and sweating. Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl says the children were in the cans for about 13 hours.

A message seeking more information was left for Dayton police.
