PRINCETON, W.Va.
A former federal prison guard convicted in the fatal beating of his 5-year-old daughter has been sentenced to 80 years behind bars.
Mercer County Circuit Court Judge William Sadler sentenced 36-year-old Ronald William Holcomb this week to consecutive terms of 40 years each for second-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death.
Holcomb was convicted by a Kanawha County Circuit Court jury in April. The Princeton resident's trial was moved to Kanawha County because of pretrial publicity.
Prosecutors said Holcomb turned his home into a prison by repeatedly abusing and punishing his daughter Brooklyn Elizabeth until she died in 2007.
Holcomb's wife, Tracy Farmer, had pleaded guilty to child neglect resulting in injury and received probation.
