HAMILTON, Ohio - A judge in Ohio has ruled there should be separate trials for twin brother pediatricians charged with sex crimes involving children.
Monday's decision affirmed another judge's ruling in March and rejected a motion by prosecutors to have the cases consolidated.
Twin doctors Mark and R. Scott Blankenburg are Hamilton area pediatricians facing multiple charges of sexual abuse of patients, bribery and money laundering.
Butler County Prosecutor Robin Piper argued the cases are interwoven. But Judge Charles Pater ruled that although the brothers are accused of similar offenses, the cases are separate and spanned wide spaces of time.
One trial is set for July, the other for August. Full convictions could result in prison sentences of up to 60 years.
