COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The debate over increasing the speed limit on Ohio interstates continued Wednesday as state lawmakers heard testimony from those for and against the increase.
In July, semis will be allowed to drive 65 mph in Ohio, so State Rep. Dan Dodd proposed a law that would increase the speed limit for cars to go 70 mph.
Dodd believes drivers want to drive faster than semis, adding that if the law passes, it would not apply to drivers inside Interstate 270.
Instead, it would target rural areas in Licking and Muskingum counties.
However, The Ohio State Highway Patrol says it's concerned about the proposed change because speed is the number one cause of fatal and injury accidents.
As of now, there is no date scheduled to vote on the legislation.
