COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Local authorities asked for the public’s help to find a suspect whom police think committed a theft.
A customer was at the Marathon station at 744 E. Hudson St. at 10:20 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1. That’s on the city’s North Side.
The customer accidentally left his wallet on the customer-service counter after paying for his gas.
A few minutes later, another customer came in and saw the wallet on the counter.
Central Ohio Crime Stoppers said the male picked up the wallet and left the station.
The station manager told investigating officers the customer who picked up the wallet was a regular. The manager said he would give the man the number of the detective who was working the case.
The investigator was told the owner had spoken with the male and had given him the investigating detective’s contact information.
The suspect did not contact the police, though, according to authorities.
A few days later, the man who had left his wallet received it in the mail. Everything was intact except for the victim’s Social Security card, Crime Stoppers said.
Central Ohio Crime Stoppers posted a reward of as much as $2,000 for any information received by Sunday, June 14, 2009, that leads to the arrest and/or indictment of the persons responsible for the crime.
Anyone with information was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 645-TIPS (8477) or e-mail at http://www.stopcrime.org. You also can text a tip to CRIMES (274637) with keyword CMH.
