COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Many Central Ohioans use local parks to spend time outside with their families or exercise.
That's what a local woman was doing Wednesday night when she came face to face with five men in an attack at Schiller Park.
The woman said she was attacked, possibly by as many as five men, and assaulted at gunpoint.
Police said that despite what happens with an income tax increase vote in August, parks won't be ignored, adding that there will be no cuts in patrols.
"Every precinct has a new bike crew. They're able to maneuver through the parks a little easier than a normal cruiser would," said Columbus police Sgt. Rich Weiner.
As summer progresses, there will be even more patrols around parks.
The Schiller Park assault occurred at about midnight, but technically, the parks are supposed to be empty after 11 p.m.
"Anytime that you're by yourself, you're walking on the street, not to say that you're going to become a victim, but you know what? Always use the buddy system," Weiner said.
Using the buddy system won't make a park in the middle of the night as safe as during the day, but there would be less of a chance of becoming a victim.
