ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio -- A beer supplier’s employees discovered two counterfeit $20s during a recent transaction.
Employees of Classic Brands at 6441 Woodbrook Rd., Albany, discovered two counterfeit $20s during a store transaction at about 4:50 p.m. Monday, June 1, according to the Athens County sheriff’s office.
Two Ohio University students were attempting to purchase beer kegs when the employee felt a counterfeit bill’s paper, according to Sheriff Patrick Kelly.
The employees used counterfeit-detecting markers to check the remaining bills and found one other counterfeit $20.
Kelly said there have been other instances of counterfeit money being passed in the county.
He said if individuals or businesses come into contact with counterfeit money, the counterfeit bills should be confiscated and law enforcement should be called immediately.
