COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Stressed out with finals and distracted by the nice weather, students on The Ohio State University campus are getting ready to relax for the summer.
But there's a warning for students not to let their guard down because advocates say this is prime time for criminals to strike.
The university district area has seen a spike in home and car break-ins.
Community leaders say thieves are targeting anything that's easy to grab -- like cell phones, laptops, and gaming systems.
They also say that thieves are dressing like students, wearing OSU gear and backpacks to blend in and sneak around unnoticed.
On- and off-campus organizations are teaming up to raise awareness about this safety issue. Members of the organizations urge residents to remember to lock their doors and windows and not leave doors open -- even if you are in the process of moving.
They also encourage calling police if you notice any suspicious activity.
