Parents Who Force Kids To Sleep In Cages File Appeal

»  Comments | Post a Comment

NORWALK, Ohio -- A northern Ohio couple convicted of forcing their adopted children to sleep in cages have filed another appeal.

This time Michael and Sharen Gravelle are appealing to the Ohio Supreme Court.

The Gravelles were convicted of abusing some of the children in December 2006 after authorities said the couple kept some of their 11 special-needs children in wire and wood enclosures.

A judge ordered them to start serving out their sentences in April after an Ohio appeals court turned down their request for a new trial.

Their appeal to the Ohio Supreme Court says the couple's search and seizure rights were violated by sheriff's deputies who looked through their home and that they couldn't get a fair hearing after pictures of the cages were released to the media.
