COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Contractors who had intended to nail some boards over the windows of an empty house in the 1500 block of Duxberry Avenue instead had to cope with what was an apparent drug-growing operation complete with guard dogs.
Summoned by the contractors, Columbus police pulled three adult pit bulls and five puppies out of the house.
They were then able to start grabbing the 3-foot-tall marijuana plants growing inside.
"It was kind of scary to be there. The dog was trying to eat through the doors of the house, trying to tear the windows off," the contractor told NBC 4's Matt Alvarez.
Police also found a snake on the premises.
The house was supposed to be empty since it had been foreclosed.
Neighbors thought someone was renting the house, but that could not be officially determined.
They had complained about activities there in the past.
No individuals were arrested in the drug seizure.
