CINCINNATI -- A black rhinoceros named Klyde has moved downstate to the Cincinnati Zoo, which hasn't had a member of that species since last fall.
The zoo says the 7-year-old, 2,500 pound male rhino arrived from the Columbus Zoo late Wednesday under a program by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums to manage endangered species.
The Cincinnati Zoo's last black rhino, Marshall, died Oct. 10.
Zoo officials say Klyde is getting used to his new surroundings and keepers before he'll be introduced to visitors early next week.
The zoo notes that he's the grandson of Ralph, a black rhino who died in 2002 after 30 years at the Cincinnati Zoo.
Only about 3,000 black rhinos remain in the wild in Africa, down from about 65,000 in 1970.
