COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio State University said it will graduate the biggest class in its history during Sunday’s spring commencement.
The nation's largest university said Friday the 8,162 students receiving their degrees at Ohio Stadium will top the previous record of 7,643 graduates, set in 2006.
OSU staff prepared the Ohio Stadium for Sunday's graduation ceremony by building a stage for dignitaries on the 50-yard line and setting up tables and chairs.
Rehearsal took place at 1 p.m., and a tailgate was scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at the Student Recreation Center.
The graduating class faces numerous challenges, graduating during a recession when many companies are downsizing or closing.
The ceremony, scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, was expected to last about three hours.
History-making astronaut and former U.S. Senator John Glenn is this year's commencement speaker, and it will be a big day, too, for his wife. Annie Glenn will receive an honorary Doctor of Public Service degree.
