NEWARK, Ohio -- One person was killed and another was injured seriously in a motorcycle accident Saturday afternoon.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.
Newark police and fire units were called to the area of state Route 79 and state Route 16 at about 2:57 p.m.
Responders found the crash at S.R. 79 at the S.R. 16 overpass.
Joseph Bennington, 38, of Newark was pronounced dead at the scene.
Bennington’s passenger, 42-year-old Jodi Wiles of Fredericktown, was transported by medical helicopter to OSU Medical Center Main.
Investigators were called to the scene, and the initial investigation indicated Bennington was traveling westbound on S.R. 16 and had merged onto S.R. 79 southbound when he lost control.
Investigators said speed was believed to have been a factor in the crash.
An autopsy was to be conducted by the Licking County coroner’s office.
Bennington and Wiles were not wearing helmets, according to authorities.
