COLUMBUS, Ohio -- School is out, and thousands of Columbus kids and young adults face a long summer without access to pools and recreation centers.
It was tough news for grandmother Vonnie Washington to deliver to her granddaughter Samantha.
Samantha has been coming to the Indian Mound Community Rec Center on Parsons Avenue for the past five years.
But when she arrived in early June, the center was closed.
It was one of several recreation centers the city of Columbus shutdown in order to make budget.
"It is just a shame. These kids have nothing to do and no where to go," Washington said.
"I really miss my friends and all the activities we used to do at the rec center," Samantha said.
