COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Authorities lifted an evacuation order and reopened a Northwest Side road after a major gas leak Tuesday.

NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.

Columbus fire was called to the area of Billingsley Road, east of Sawmill Road, to contain a gas-main leak.

Homes within a two-block area were evacuated, and Billingsley Road was blocked off until 3:30 p.m..

The leak was reported on the 2400 block of Billingsley Road, near Dunworth Drive, sometime after 9 a.m.

Columbus fire Battalion Chief Doug Smith said it was a high-pressure gas main and it was a feeder main to most of the area homes and businesses.

The leak reportedly was caused when a construction crew hit an incorrectly marked gas main.
