COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A man was charged with felonious assault after CPD said he struck an officer with a vehicle.

Officer Bryan Hupp was working special duty for an apartment complex located in the area of Gender Road and Winchester Pike on the city’s East Side.
Hupp observed 30-year-old Archie Smith acting suspiciously in the complex at about 4:14 a.m. Thursday, according to a police report.
Hupp attempted to stop Smith when he reportedly fled on foot.
Smith got into a vehicle parked in the area and intentionally drove his vehicle toward Hupp, striking him, according to CPD.
Hupp was transported to Grant Medical Center in stable condition with a lower-leg injury.
Patrol officers stopped Smith in the vehicle a short distance later.
Smith was charged with one count of felonious assault.
CPD said Smith had stolen items from the neighborhood in which he was originally spotted inside his vehicle.
