CENTRAL OHIO -- Parents: How do you protect your child from sexual predators?
127 billion texts went out over the Verizon Wireless network during the first three months of 2009.
Most of the texts were innocent but not all.
Parents should contact their local police department if they suspect a pedophile is contacting their children, according to Verizon.
Police have the authority to request traces from cell-phone providers. Departments also can find out what the text messages said -- even if the messages were deleted.
The window of opportunity to do it is short, though, so reporting promptly is important.
Parents also can use Usage Controls to control who calls your children and when. Blocking certain numbers is an option.
