Ohio Counties Want Old Analog TV Sets Recycled

»  Comments | Post a Comment

DAYTON, Ohio -- Some Ohio counties are encouraging people to recycle old analog television sets rather than throwing the sets in the trash, where toxic chemicals can leach into landfills. Montgomery County residents can drop off old TV sets at recycling centers in Moraine and Vandalia. Other southwest Ohio counties, including Miami, Greene and Warren, hold recycling events throughout the year.

Nineteen states require recycling of old electronic items, but not Ohio. Only about 20 percent of all old TV sets in America are recycled. The rest are dumped in landfills, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. U.S. television stations switched to digital signals June 12. The old analog sets will work fine with a converter box.
