SALEM, W.Va.
Salem police are on the lookout for a deer accused of attacking and injuring a toddler while he was playing in his yard.
Police have the state Division of Natural Resources' permission to kill the doe if the animal is found.
The attack occurred last Sunday.
Jackie Hyde said her 2-year-old son received cuts to his face and stomach.
Hyde said the doe often nests near the family's property, but this year it nested in their yard.
DNR conservation officer Roy Cool said the doe may be a pet because others have reported it has allowed them to pet it.
It's against state law to have a wild animal as a pet.
Cool said although deer attacks on humans rare, it's best to put the animal down because of public safety concerns.
