COLUMBUS, Ohio – Governor Strickland has long said gambling is not a solution to the state’s economic woes. But now, there may be no other option. On Friday, Governor Strickland announced his support of a plan that would allow slot machines at Ohio’s seven racetracks. The money generated is supposed to help fill the states $3.2 billion budget hole. NBC 4’s Mike Bowersock spoke with people at Scioto Downs on Saturday and many of them are excited at the possibility of slots pairing up with the racetracks. The slot machine proposal still has some obstacles to overcome and is not a shoe-in yet, but the biggest obstacle: the governor’s opposition does not appear to be an obstacle anymore.
