COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A toddler was wandering around a Northeast Side neighborhood Tuesday evening, and officials are working to prove people who came forward are the girl's family.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.
Police received a call about a young girl wandering the streets alone at about 6 p.m. Tuesday, according to Franklin County Children Services spokesperson Doris Calloway Moore.
The girl was found near Mock Road at Delavan Drive and Bar Harbor Road.
The girl is about 2 to 3 years old.
Police canvassed the area for 45 minutes but did not find the toddler's parents.
No one in the neighborhood could identify the toddler, and she was not able to tell authorities her name or who her parents are.
FCCS said they believe she may not speak English or has a speech delay.
The toddler was found clean and healthy and with no signs of abuse or foul play.
FCCS said some family members came forward Tuesday night. The department has to conduct an investigation to prove the people are the toddler's family members.
The verification process usually takes about one day, according to FCCS.
Apparently, there was a miscommunication between caretakers about who was watching the child, and they didn’t realize she was gone.
The toddler was in foster care Tuesday night. FCCS said she likely will be back with her family soon.
