Harding Tomb To Undergo Restoration

»  Comments | Post a Comment

MARION, Ohio
The Ohio tomb of Warren Harding, America's 29th president, will undergo a couple of months of restoration work beginning July 6.

The Ohio Historical Society says a contractor will clean and repair the marble burial site in Marion, Harding's hometown about 40 miles north of Columbus. Officials also say landscaping will be improved under the $256,000 contract.

A construction fence will limit public access to the outdoor tomb while the work is done.

The tomb was designed to resemble a Greek temple. The graves of the president and first lady Florence Harding are encircled in tall columns.

Harding died in 1923 while still in office. The historical society wants the work finished in time for an Oct. 11 ceremony observing Harding's birthday.
