COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Homeowners trying to fight foreclosure have been schemed out of thousands of dollars. Now the Ohio Attorney General is taking foreclosure rescue company 21st Century Legal Services to court.
The AG says the company charged $1,500 to $2,600 to help restructure home loans, but never carried out their services.
The AG also says the company instructed homeowners to stop making payments and to stop contacting their lenders.
The AG says several factors about foreclosure help should raise a red flag including: if the company says not to contact a lender or attorney, if the company encourages you to lease your home to buy it back or if the company offers to fill out paperwork or pressures you to sign.
The AG says never pay a fee until services are provided. Victims of foreclosure rescue schemes are being asked to come forward and report it.
