WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. -- Two more rabid raccoons have been found in Greenbrier County, including one that was killed by a man with a shovel after it aggressively blocked his path.
County sanitarian Amanda McMichael says that brings the number of confirmed rabies cases in the county to 21 in the past year, 18 of which have been raccoons.
A local rabies task force has asked the county to look into the possibility of vaccine-infused bait to help address the problem.
McMichael says several hundred people came to recent rabies clinics to get their pets vaccinated.
If left untreated, rabies can be fatal.
