COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A two-vehicle car accident on the city’s East Side shutdown a portion of Interstate 70 for hours.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.
I-70 eastbound was closed Tuesday morning at about 2:30 a.m. between the Brice Road and state Route 256 exits.
NBC 4 Photojournalist Jon Edwards was on the scene said the accident looked like it was a two-vehicle, head-on collision in the eastbound lanes.
The Columbus police accident investigation squad continued to investigate the crash.
Two victims were rescued from the vehicles, and both were transported to Grant Medical Center. One victim was in life-threatening condition, and one was in stable condition.
Water used for the rescue turned into ice on the freeway. Crews placed salt and sand on the ice and reopened the freeway once the ice melted.
Traffic was directed off of I-70 eastbound at Brice Road, and motorists could re-enter the freeway at S.R. 256.
No more immediate details were available, including the victims' names.
