TOLEDO, Ohio -- A one-time Buckeye star is now sitting in prison, serving more than seven years in Toledo on multiple charges.
Now, Maurice Clarett is in the news again -- not for football -- but for his blog.
Clarett helped the Ohio State Buckeyes win the 2002 national championship. But his fall from grace hasn't meant he's fall out of the spotlight.
Clarett is blogging from his Toledo jail cell with the help of relatives.
He talks about his life, daughter and even accepts comments and questions from readers.
"I think it's great. I'd like to see him on the Internet doing some positive things for the community," said Evan Osterman, and Ohio State junior.
Clarett writes that he is enrolled at Ohio University, studying geriatrics and gerontology through the only college program for the incarcerated in the state.
"We think it's a good program too and (it) does some good for the people in it but for society as a whole," said Ken Armstrong, Ohio University director of independent and distance learning.
The blog is a window into the mind of Maurice Clarett, helping people to understand how he thinks and what he is thinking.
"To me, it seems like he's using his time wisely, and you know there's not a lot probably for him to do tat this point, but to decide, think back what he's done and what he wants to do in the future and I think this is a positive role because people can learn from it," said Brent Garland, and area resident.
