FTC Clears Up Confusion On Free Credit Reports

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Federal Trade Commission is trying to clear up potential confusion about how consumers should get their free annual credit reports.

The FTC is launching a new TV advertisement campaign spoofing a series of long-running commercials for a third-party company claiming to offer free credit reports.

The FTC said the third-party company is not the officially authorized provider and warns consumers could incur potential hidden fees or fees for additional services in order to access their credit reports.

According to the FTC, the only government authorized Web site offering truly free credit reports is annualcreditreport.com. There, you can access their credit report online or find the mailing address to apply in writing.
